Last week I met with a client who is building a gorgeous home that is so close to being finished. She has a beautiful free-standing bathtub in the master bath that builders were reluctant to put in for her - a fact we discussed for a bit. Oh how builders love their corner bathtubs, with or without jets, with some even adding stairs for extra drama...cringe!!
Now, full confession, I happen to live in one of those builder homes with a corner bathtub, so there's no judgement here. But, as a designer and more importantly, a bath-taker, I appreciate a good tub and tub space in which to center my chi (if that's possible). Here are a few good ones to feast your eyes on.
This Nantucket cottage bathroom below has the perfect mix of classic elements - ship-lap on the walls and ceiling, a black tub that adds a nice contrast and grounds the space, classic fixtures, simple built-in's and cabinetry, white oak floors, and of course a lot of light doesn't hurt either. Click on the link below to see more pictures of the whole bathroom (and house)...it's quite beautiful!
Herringbone marble floors, marble slab on the tub face and surround, classic subway tile up to the ceiling, modern and clean lines mixed with a traditional arched doorway? Yes, please! Obviously I'm a classic girl at heart. Styling, of course, takes it up a notch, but there are so many style possibilities with a bathroom grounded in the classics. Adding artwork, fabric or woven shades, and rugs according to personal taste and desired "look and feel" will distinguish your bathroom from your neighbor's and make it a space you want to be in.
If you're small on space, go big on style! A small bathroom is the perfect place to pack in some punch. Go for that fun tile on the floor, floor to ceiling tile, or funky light fixture or mirror! This one below adds gold hardware and fixtures, dark grout between tiles, and of course that amazing black claw foot tub makes a huge impact in this space.
I love this bathroom because it's a pretty typical setup of a lot of bathrooms I see, but it really makes a statement with the marble shower framing and subtle, but fun and pretty floors (notice the border detail on the floor too). Can't go wrong with this...ever.
Tile selections, fixtures, surround details and the tub itself can turn a standard-blah tub into one you'll not want to get out of! Keep this in mind if you are renovating or want to update your builder bathroom!
