Before and After

I thought I would share with you a before and after of a project I completed recently via The Nest Egg. We are still waiting on some finishing details (floor lamps and artwork), so I didn't snap pictures of the whole room. And only iphone photos here- just couldn't wait for better ones!

My client wanted to start brand new in her family room, only keeping a long TV console they had. Her inspiration pictures showed neutral rooms with layers of black, white and in between with a high contrast of textures. These spaces were all fresh and light, but cozy and plush at the same time. They wanted the room to be inviting, conducive to conversation, but also a place where they could kick up their feet and watch TV. Here's the concept board...

This design is full of neutrals, textures, contrasts of velvet and seagrass, a mix of metals, shine vs matte, rough versus smooth, and limited patterns. Her console has a reddish tone, which was difficult to incorporate at first, but I layered in some caramel and copper colors in smaller pieces like pillows and ottomans to tie it in.

Here's a before picture...

They decided to streamline the fireplace and change their very traditional mantle to a stone face with a linear insert. We framed the fireplace with two-toned drapery panels, bringing down the height of the two-story room to make a cozier, less dramatic space. I looooove these draperies because they let the fireplace be the focal point, but add a little something-something too! :)

And the dramatic after!!
